Abstract: In the new era, and under the background of constructing stronger nation in education and sports, deepening the integration of physical education and cultural education, strengthening the school physical education work comprehensively, the birth of the National Student (Youth) Games is the inevitability of historical evolution, and also the beginning of the development of sports in the new era. This paper analyzes the reasons for the twice amalgamations of them, and based on this, summarizes the problems which existing in the past, in order to design a more reasonable competition plan for the National Student (Youth) Games, the paper expounds the thinking on its reform and development direction in the context of its new historical mission. The study suggests that it should be based on the new stage of development to implement the new concept, and adhere to the idea of "student-centered" and give full play to the leading role of the competition. Under the background of the integration of physical education and cultural education, it should carry on the depth reform work in organize mode, project setting, competition system, competition method, operation management, and always deepen, highlight, and embody the integration of physical education and cultural education. It is more necessary to strengthen research and improve the system construction of the National Student (Youth) Games, promote the modernization of the governance system and governance capacity of it, and then form its new pattern.
