Abstract: To inherit and develop Chinese traditional winter sports culture, promote the sports on ice and snow, and fulfill the promise of “get 300 million people participate in ice and snow sports”, the article adopts the methods of literature study and comparative study to review the traditional incarnations of ice and snow sports in ancient China from the rock art, poetry, painting, games, performances and competitions. It discusses the introduction and development of modern ice and snow sports in the Old China and makes a comprehensive review on the development of ice and snow sports after the founding of the New China. At the same time, it prospects the development trend of sports on ice and snow in China: the formulation of ice and snow sports policies and regulations improving day by day, infrastructure construction steadily strengthening, mass ice and snow sports getting more and more popular, the sports industry of ice and snow sports developing with a good momentum, and a continuously improving with competitive level for ice and snow sports.
