2.School of Physical Education and Sports，Beijing Normal University，Beijing 100875，China)Abstract: “Technical dilemma” and “fitness dilemma” have become tough nuts to crack, which are troubling physical education teaching in China; the school of fitness education is an important modern school of physical education teaching in China; its theories and practice formed in over 30 years will provide new references and inspirations for physical edu-cation teaching in China to get out of the dilemmas. The authors focused on elaborating the social background for the formation of the school of fitness education, as well as its development courses, contributions and limitations, and put forward that “fitness class” should become a new direction for physical education curriculum reform in the future.
