Abstract: Speed and power are important contents in shot-putter training. Heavy shot putting exercising is the most effective way to enhance shot-putter’s event specific speed and power, but there are different views in selecting the shot weight. By applying the power theory, and by means of experiment and video analysis, the author studied 129 shot putters at level 2 or higher and 60 college students majoring in physical education, and revealed the following findings: the best weight for developing shot putter’s event specific speed and power by using the heavy weight put-ting method is somewhere between the weight for sub maximum putting power and the weight for maximum putting power; the weight for sub maximum putting power should be used as the first choice of the weight for exercising.
